Birthday Newspapers Archive

Who doesn't want to know what happened on the day they were born? Which is why receiving a birthdate newspaper from the day you were born is such a well received gift. With the UK's largest private newspaper archive of over 7 million issues, spanning 3 centaury's, you will be sure to find the birthday newspaper you are looking for.

Special presentation options are available for all old newspapers and make the perfect finishing touch for those extra special milestone occasions. There is a huge range of gift pack options such as presentation boxes and folders which are the perfect complement to keep a treasured original newspaper gift safe for years to come so it can be enjoyed, not just by the recipient, but also future generations.

Genuine back issue newspapers can be searched for using your date of birth or by a particular title, obviously vintage newspapers aren't just given for people's birthdates. Commemorative newspapers are also a great gift for any special occasion, some other popular events for newspaper gifts to be given include wedding anniversaries and retirements.

Historic newspapers offer an unrivalled insight into the past and many British newspaper titles have become institutions in themselves. The titles below are some of the most popular; a more comprehensive list with a break down by decade can be found here.

The Times Newspaper Archive

The Times is one of Britain's most popular broadsheets and was first published in 1785, making it one of the longest running. This is a perfect newspaper for birthdays as almost every date is available from the past century. We guarantee that every edition of The Times sent out is a genuine and original issue, that is why all old newspapers are supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

After entering a date to search for archive newspapers you will be notified if that date fell on a Sunday, and of course The Sunday Times is available for the majority of dates.

Guardian Newspaper Archive

Originating as a regional title the Guardian quickly gained notoriety, largely due to its famous editor of 57 years, C P Scott. As well as the national titles there are also thousands of regional and local newspapers, like the Manchester Guardian, available for lots of dates, like the day you were born.

If you are looking for an original newspaper as a gift then why not compliment it with one of these stunning gift presentation options. There's a huge range to choose from, not only are they a great way to present the perfect gift to mark any special occasion but they will also help protect this treasured keepsake for years to come.

Daily Mail Newspaper Archive

The Daily Mail is Britain's second biggest selling newspaper and like a lot of vintage newspapers started life as a broad sheet before taking on a tabloid format. What makes the Daily Mail unique as a newspaper is that even original editions positioned themselves in the middle market between tabloids and broadsheets. It was on 3rd May 1971 that the first tabloid issue was printed to mark the 75th anniversary of the paper. The Mail on Sunday was also launched 2nd May 1982, one of the UK's first new national Sunday newspapers in over 20 years.

It was less than a week later that the Daily Mail merged with its sister-tabloid, the Daily Sketch, as was often the case with many of the historical newspaper titles still around today. If you are giving this as a gift then add an extra special by having your newspaper personalised with the recipient's name, date of birth and a message on the certificate of authenticity.

Daily Telegraph Newspaper Archive

Prior to the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 the front pages of newspapers were dominated by advertisements and paid announcements, the Daily Telegraph was one of the first to buck this trend. Like with so many past newspapers though it didn't get off to the best of starts and had to be sold to its printer, Joseph Levy, as settlement for the printing bill in 1855.

The Sunday Telegraph was founded in 1961 and was the first new national Sunday newspaper to be published in over 40 years, a significant milestone following the World Wars. Historic Newspapers are perfect gifts for both birthdays and special dates, such as wedding anniversaries. Have you checked what titles are available from the day you were married? An anniversary newspaper makes the perfect romantic gift to remind you of that special day.

Daily Mirror Newspaper Archive

The Daily Mirror is the UK's oldest surviving tabloid newspaper, and has been in print since 1903. It was soon followed by the launch of the Sunday Mirror in 1915, which was originally The Sunday Pictorial. The prominence of images used to aid articles in the Mirror is one of the things that makes it such a fascinating birthdate newspaper to read through.

Seeing what happened on the day you were born is of course not the only time these commemorative newspapers are referred to. For those looking for a specific article or picture, researchers interested in family ancestry and genealogy, or whatever your aim, we recommend contacting our newspaper research facility here.

The Sun Newspaper Archive

At its peak The Sun regularly sold over 4 million copies a day in the mid-90's, making it the UK's biggest selling daily newspaper. With the recent addition of The Sun on Sunday following the demise of the News of the World it has further increased its readership to 7 days a week.
