8th April 1994The body of Kurt Cobain, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter with the band ‘Nirvana‘, is found dead at his Lake Washington home. Cobain was officially ruled to have committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
22nd April 1994Richard M. Nixon, 37th President of the United States (b. 1913) dies.
1st May 1994Three-time Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna is killed in an accident during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Italy.
6th May 1994The Channel Tunnel, which took 15,000 workers over seven years to complete, finally opens between England and France, enabling passengers to travel between the two countries in just thirty-five minutes.
10th May 1994Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as South Africa's first Black president.
