At 02:56am on 21st July 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to tread on to the lunar surface. Proposed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, “before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth” became America’s goal. The lunar landings were a victory for America, effectively ending the “Space Race” during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. The 20th century post-Second World War competition driving the two rivals had made the possibility of spaceflight a reality.
Now, in the Moon Landing Newspaper Book, extensive, detailed reports chronicle the minute by minute breakdown of the entire event. With coverage on the launch from the Saturn V rocket at Kennedy Space Center, articles cover Apollo 11, and details of how the event became the fifth crewed mission of NASA’s Apollo program. The Lunar Landings marked one of humanity’s greatest achievements of the 21st century and now this unrivalled collection brings individuals an eye-opening view of the past, in a personalised edition.
